Rio Grande District Project

The Rio Grande District Project is envisioned to be an urban-scale, walkable community that leverages developers and local organizations to create a programmed and activated district for art, community health and wellness, and organic economic growth. 

With its prime location just west of Salt Lake City’s Downtown and flanked by Utah’s premier multimodal transit hub and the iconic historic Rio Grande Depot, this 11-acre assemblage is a key opportunity to establish a model of transit-oriented development for both the City and State. 

The recommended design and redevelopment strategy for the area has been formalized in the Rio Grande District Vision & Implementation Plan, which outlines a calibrated mix of land uses, including residential with retail and maker’s spaces on the ground levels, a new hotel, and space for nonprofit operations.
